More and More and More

We live in a world where everyone always wants more -- more clothes; more toys; more money; more stuff - a bigger house, a better car --more, more, more.  All this can be very stressful  - because your employer maybe constantly expecting more... your family always wanting more... of something.  Sometimes we find ourselves being pulled in a dozen different directions like so much silly putty stretched getting thinner and thinner until there's barely anything left.
This constant desire for more is part of our human nature.  From the time we are born we want more --babies cry when a bottle is pulled out of their mouth so that they can be burped.  Later on, as toddlers we are not satisfied with just one cookie -we want two; one for each hand.  When we are a little older, we beg for a new toy or a candy bar every time we are at the store with Mom or Dad.  This is the way God made us - it is part of our inner drive for success.  And in and of itself -there is really nothing wrong with this.  We just have to channel this desire for more in the right direction.  Christ can conquer the selfish part of this drive if we allow him to reign in our hearts and in our lives.  You see, the more successful we become in our lives - if our hearts are true and pure - the more we will be able to bless others.

Do you know the song, "More About Jesus?"  So many times we sing songs in worship as part of the routine and don't really listen to and think about the words.  But worship to our God should never be routine.  We don't use the song as part of our worship the way God wants us to.  As a result of this we miss out on so many blessings.
Take the time now to think about the words of this song:
More about Jesus would I know....(really? -- do you seek to know more about your Lord every day)
More of His grace to others show ....(do we show the grace of Christ Jesus to those we deal with on a daily basis?)
More of His saving fulness see ...(do we really, REALLY understand the value of the gift of salvation?)
More of His love who died for me ...(do we seek His love in our lives every day?  do we have that strong desire within our hearts?)

There's more - please just think about these words:
More about Jesus let me learn, more of His holy will discern; Spirit of God my teacher be, Showing the things of Christ to me.
More about Jesus in His Word, holding communion with my Lord; Hearing His voice in every line, making each faithful saying mine.
More about Jesus on His throne, Riches in glory all His own; More of His kingdom's sure increase; More of His coming, Prince of Peace.

What wonderful beautiful words that Eliza Hewitt writes!  This shows us our strong desire for more can be channeled toward Christ and His kingdom and when it is ---what a joyful life we can live!  No more being all stretched out like silly putty.  Woo Hoo!!
The more I study God's word; the more I learn - the more I realize how much I don't know.  God's word is always so wonderful and what's so great about it is that there is always more to learn -more to soak in.  And the more I serve the Lord in various ways - the more I want to keep serving Him.  Working for the Lord is such a wonderful blessing, it just leaves you wanting more and more.
Try it!  You'll see.  I hope I get to keep adding more and more and more to my  life every day!

Christ above all things,
Robin
