Hello everyone. 😊 May the Lord bless us today as we serve Him. Remember there may be someone out there who needs us … our kindness … our consideration … and our compassion. Some folks just really need to be noticed. It is a way to share God’s love with them – which is what we are supposed to do.
The Biggest Word in the Bible
Can anyone guess what the biggest word in the Bible is? It isn’t a long word in the number of letters, but it is a big word in its significance. This word carries a lot of weight. Some of you may have figured it out by now. The word I’m talking about only has two letters - ‘IF.’
If is a conditional word. If we do one thing – then something else will happen. A mother might tell her children, IF they make all A’s and B’s on their report cards, they will get some kind of special treat or gift (whatever it would be) as a reward for doing well.
The other side of the coin is if the children do NOT earn all A’s and B’s, they will NOT get the special thing. This can be a real motivator for children to do well in school; but it does not always work.
Unfortunately, it does not always work between us and God either. With every ‘if’ that contains a promise, there is also a consequence for not following through. Take for example John 12:26 which reads “If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.”
Logic follows that if we do not follow and serve Christ, the Father will not honor us.
Here is an example of a negative consequence
associated with this weighty word. John
15:6 – “If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch
and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and
burned.”
Clearly it is important to avoid being thrown into that fire. The conclusion then is that we do everything we can to abide in Jesus Christ!
Here are a few more verses with that conditional word. John 14:15 – “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” This seems so simple.
There are no hidden agendas here. Loving Christ means keeping the commandments of Christ. Those who do not love Jesus will have no interest in obeying Him.
2 Timothy 2:12 – “if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us.”
Galatians 6:9 – “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Let’s all pray for each other! All of us need prayers for faithfulness, for growth, and maturity. We can find great strength through prayer!
A wonderful reward awaits those who are on the positive side of “IF!”
Christ above all things - Robin
